The story
Max the terrier must cope with some major life changes when his owner gets married and has a baby. When the family takes a trip to the countryside, nervous Max has numerous run-ins with canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes and a scary turkey. Luckily for Max, he soon catches a break when he meets Rooster, a gruff farm dog who tries to cure the lovable pooch of his neuroses.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated 3D animation with sunlit Manhattan apartments giving way to wide, sun-warmed farmland, all rendered in glossy, cheerful colour with a crisp digital finish. The camera moves with lively, playful energy: quick cuts, big physical gags, and bouncy chase sequences through fields and barns. The score is upbeat pop and orchestral swell, with plenty of sound-effect comedy. The vibe is bright, goofy and warm, the kind of light family comedy that suits a weekend afternoon, a child's movie night, or a relaxed watch while folding laundry. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with a gentle emotional spine about a nervous dog learning to trust his place in a changing family and to lean on an unlikely friend. Intensity is low: slapstick scuffles, cartoon peril with cows, foxes and a menacing turkey, and some mild jokes, but no real gore or cruelty and nothing frightening for young viewers. It is made for families, for younger children and the adults watching with them, and for anyone wanting an easygoing, good-humoured animated comedy with a soft heart.
