The story
Teenager Riley's mind headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated computer animation with glossy surfaces and a sunny, candy-colored palette, the mind's control room glowing in warm amber and cool teal while the sprawling landscapes of memory and personality shimmer with playful detail. Its camera moves with brisk, kinetic energy: swooping flythroughs, quick cuts between chaos and calm, and the bounce of a score that leans on bright orchestral pulses and comic stingers. The sound design is busy and cheerful, full of chimes, whooshes and cartoon percussion, though it drops into quieter, more tender beats when the story turns inward. Vibe-wise it reads as lively, warm and slightly frantic, a bouncy family movie for a rainy afternoon, a kids' movie night, or a light watch when you want something upbeat with a sharp sense of humor. Pacing is fast and dense with gags, and the emotional register swings between broad slapstick and genuinely earnest moments about growing up, friendship and the messy work of self-acceptance. The central arc follows a young teenager learning to live alongside her anxious, overthinking feelings rather than pushing them away. Intensity is low: mild peril, some cartoonish scuffles and jumpy moments, no gore, no sexual content, and the fear stays playful. It suits families, younger teens and adults who enjoy witty, big-hearted animation.
