The story

Forty years after his unforgettable first case in Beverly Hills, Detroit cop Axel Foley returns to do what he does best: solve crimes and cause chaos.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-saturated Los Angeles in the daytime: palm-lined boulevards, pastel stucco, glossy Beverly Hills storefronts and the warm haze of late-afternoon light over pool decks, all shot in clean, polished digital with a bright commercial sheen. The camera stays busy and mobile, with snappy cuts, zooms into comic reactions and wide establishing shots of city streets, and the score leans on a bouncy synth-and-horns pastiche of the 1980s original that tips into pure throwback fun. The vibe is breezy, cheeky and nostalgic, the sort of easygoing popcorn afternoon that suits a Saturday on the couch, a long-haul flight or a comfort rewatch for fans of the first films. Pacing is brisk and the comedy is the main engine, with banter and mismatched-partner rhythms carrying most scenes, while the emotional beats stay light: an ageing lawman reconnecting with family and finding his footing again. Violence is present through frequent shootouts, car chases and fistfights, mostly cartoonish and bloodless rather than graphic, with some coarse language and crude jokes. It is for viewers who want a loud, funny, familiar action-comedy with an easy warmth and little darkness.
