The story
Four years after defeating The Grabber, Finney Blake is struggling with life after captivity. When his younger sister Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the Black Phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp, the siblings become determined to solve the mystery and confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.
What it’s like
Cold, washed-out winter light over snowbound pine forest and a rustic mountain camp, with the Colorado Rockies rising grey-blue behind it all. Long patient takes and wide landscapes give way to tight, claustrophobic interiors, with dim cabin rooms lit by lamplight and flickering bulbs. Grain and sickly saturated colour shift into dream sequences, where the mask-wearing figure looms in deep shadow. The score leans on dissonant strings and a faint, eerie hum, with long stretches of wind and near silence. The vibe is bleak, uneasy and tense, with a dark fairytale chill and a fragile sibling bond at its core. It suits a late-night watch alone or a cold winter evening, though not a light or relaxed one. Intensity is high: child abuse, child murder and a stalking killer drive the story, with fear and menace throughout, and violence that is brief but jarring rather than gory. Best for horror fans who want a supernatural thriller with emotional weight and a sibling story at its centre.
