The story

Brace yourselves - the new kids are here. Five talented black scholarship students, and an elite private school with a reputation problem. One of them will have to change...

What it’s like

Bright, observational British school-comedy with a sharp edge, set in the wood-panelled corridors, dormitories and manicured grounds of an elite boarding school, where ordinary institutional spaces carry the friction. Expect quick, talky scenes, awkward social silences and a comic rhythm that undercuts tension with barbed humour, with the drama building in the gaps between classes and late-night dorm conversations. The emotional register swings between wry and pointed, following a group of young people navigating suspicion, belonging and pressure to fit in, and the arcs turn on how each of them chooses to bend or hold their ground. Intensity is moderate: racism and racial stereotyping are confronted directly and sometimes uncomfortably, and drug use and underage drinking appear as part of teenage life, but there is no graphic violence and the tone stays largely light on its feet. It suits a comfortable evening with friends or a binge over a few nights, for viewers who enjoy social satire about class, race and youth, and who want their comedy to have something real underneath it.
