The story

Bosch is now making a living as a private investigator two years after he quit the LAPD and finds himself working with one time enemy and top-notch attorney Honey “Money” Chandler. Meanwhile, Bosch's daughter Maddie is venturing into the world of the LAPD.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached Los Angeles in unhurried procedural scenes: hazy freeway light, dusty stucco courtyards, mid-century hillside houses, and night streets where the neon and porch lamps cut through the dark. The camera tends to hold on people in conversation, with plenty of medium shots and quiet pauses, and the jazz-inflected score comes in low, mostly under dialogue and driving scenes. The vibe is weary, wry and steady, a private-investigator noir that feels best late on a weekend or as an evening watch with a drink in hand. Pacing is deliberate, with case threads that unspool over whole episodes, and the emotional core is a middle-aged man learning to work alongside old rivals while his daughter tests herself inside the institution he left behind. Intensity is moderate: occasional gunfire, brief fights and crime-scene aftermath, with some grim moments and no gore, sexual content kept mostly offscreen. It suits viewers who want grown-up crime drama with character warmth and a lived-in city, rather than fast twists or spectacle.
