The story
Five sisters...and Richard Seymour has to marry one to gain control of the Durant financial empire. Made to feel the ugly duckling by her glamorous family, and totally rejected by her father, Leigh Durant is stunned when Richard makes his choice -- to marry her! Can he possibly give her the sense of belonging and love she's always craved? His proposition is very tempting. And they do share an intense physical attraction. But is she truly the bride he wants...or just the easiest path to power?
What it’s like
Polished, glossy contemporary romance with the feel of a boardroom at dusk: city penthouses, lavish family estates, and the cool sheen of money set against private, heated interiors. The prose is brisk and smooth, built on close third-person sensations, with dialogue doing much of the work between rival wills. Pacing is steady and page-turning, with the tension sustained by power plays and slow-building attraction rather than action. The tone is emotionally charged but comforting, with a clear romantic promise carried through domestic cruelty, family slights, and the ache of wanting to belong. Physical attraction runs strong and sensual on the page, with love scenes present but not graphic. There is no violence, and the harshest moments are emotional, centred on a father's rejection and sisters' jealousy. Good for readers who want a commute or weekend read, a lush escape with an underdog heroine and a commanding, initially unreadable hero, and a satisfying move from wounded to wanted.
