The story

Unlucky assassin Ladybug is determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs gone off the rails. Fate, however, may have other plans, as Ladybug's latest mission puts him on a collision course with lethal adversaries from around the globe—all with connected, yet conflicting, objectives—on the world's fastest train.

What it’s like

Saturated, hyper-stylized color bleeds across nearly every frame of this Tokyo-set thriller: vivid pinks and yellows against bright white bullet-train interiors, neon-soaked night streets, and a restless camera that whips through tight carriages with kinetic, stop-start energy. The sound is pumped and pop-driven, with needle-drop soundtrack hits cutting against sudden bursts of brutal close-quarters violence, and the rhythm stays fast, jokey and relentless for most of its runtime. The tone is glossy, cheeky and self-aware, a bouncy caper where bad luck and dark humor pile up in a confined space. Violence is frequent and often bloody, with stabbings, gunfire and gory fights played partly for laughs, but the stakes never feel truly grim. Sexual content is minimal and language is frequent. The emotional core is a weary, unlucky hitman slowly finding a kind of peace in the chaos. Best for viewers who want a loud, stylish, funny ride with a hint of melancholy and plenty of blood.
