The story
A bank employee weighed down by her jobless husband's debts - and her own broken dreams - finds a secret source of seemingly unlimited cash in her home.
What it’s like
Cramped rooms in flat, unforgiving light: tube-lit bank counters, a small Mumbai flat with ceiling fans turning over stained walls, and the grey-brown glare of a city in the middle of a cash shortage. Kashyap's camera stays close and restless, pressing into faces and tight corners, while the soundtrack leans on jittery percussion, bursts of pop, and long stretches of ambient street and household noise that make the rooms feel airless. The mood is sardonic and anxious, a dark comedy that tips into thriller, with edgy humour that doesn't let the tension settle. Its people are trapped by money worries and quietly shrinking ambitions, and the arc follows one woman's gradual hardening as the pressure builds. Violence is sudden and unsentimental, brief but sharp, with some blood and a few tense domestic confrontations; there is nothing sustained or gratuitous, but it lands with real jolt. Best for viewers who want a sour, unsettling night in front of the screen rather than comfort, and who enjoy social satire with a hard, grimy edge.
