The story
While visiting family in Mexico, a lonely boy befriends a mythical creature hiding on his grandfather's ranch and embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.
What it’s like
Warm, sun-bleached Mexican ranch country, with wide dusty landscapes, golden-hour light over scrub and corrals, and a family-film palette of ochres, dusty greens and bright daylight that gives the whole thing a summer-holiday glow. Its vibe is gentle wonder with a touch of folklore: a rainy-afternoon or lazy-weekend watch for a family, or a cosy comfort pick when you want something sweet and adventurous rather than frightening. The pacing is brisk and friendly, built around road-trip and ranch-yard episodes, and the emotional register stays light and hopeful, following a lonely boy who slowly opens up through his friendship with an unlikely creature. Intensity is low: there are chases, scrapes and some peril from human antagonists, but no gore, no sexual content and nothing truly scary, though younger children may find a few tense moments. It suits families with kids around eight to twelve, and anyone who wants a family adventure with a little legend-driven magic and a generous heart.
