The story

A loving father finds a clown suit for his son's birthday party, only to realize the suit is part of an evil curse that turns its wearer into a killer.

What it’s like

Gritty, low-key suburban realism gives way to a lurid, flesh-crawling horror in this film, with grainy handheld close-ups of domestic ordinariness (kitchen counters, a cramped garage, a dim basement) and a sickly, desaturated palette broken by the crimson of blood and the clown's bright, painted-on grin. Shadows swallow much of the frame, and the sound design leans on wet, creaking textures and a pulsing, unsettling score rather than jump-scare stingers. The pacing is patient at first, building a slow-burn dread as an ordinary family man is drawn into something he cannot control, then tips into escalating set pieces that are brutal and gory, with violence that is explicit, bodily and often played for grim, darkly comic shock. Child peril and a death-tinged atmosphere mean this is no gentle watch: expect graphic bloodshed, disturbing body horror and a persistent note of mocking cruelty throughout. It suits late-night viewing with the lights off, a Halloween double-bill, or anyone who enjoys horror that is nasty, sardonic and unafraid to be uncomfortable. It is built for fans of splatter, creature-feature absurdity and the particular unease of a clown that refuses to stay in costume.
