The story

When the patriarch of a prominent family dies, his heirs battle to determine who will gain control of his beloved soccer team: The Cuervos of Nuevo Toledo.

What it’s like

Bright, flat Mexican daylight and warm interiors give this Netflix comedy-drama a sun-washed, lived-in look, with sweeping Monterrey-style stadium exteriors, cluttered family homes, and bold, saturated wardrobe in team colours. The camera stays mobile and busy, often handheld in tight family rooms, with quick cuts, direct-to-camera asides, and a bouncing, guitar-and-brass pop score that carries the energy of a stadium crowd. The vibe is wry, affectionate and mildly chaotic, the kind of show that suits a lazy weekend binge, a light evening with a drink, or a comfort rewatch when you want laughs without much strain. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with each episode ending on a small twist, and the emotional register swings between sharp sibling squabbling and tender moments of grief and reluctant loyalty. The arcs follow squabbling heirs slowly learning that they need each other, more than they need the club. Intensity is low: there is some swearing, adult humour and sexual talk, with occasional brief scuffles and tension, but no gore and little real violence. It is for viewers who enjoy family comedy, sports-world backdrops and sibling rivalry played for warmth rather than cruelty.
