The story

The year is 2071. Following a terrorist bombing, a deadly virus is released on the populace of Mars and the government has issued the largest bounty in history, for the capture of whoever is behind it. The bounty hunter crew of the spaceship Bebop; Spike, Faye, Jet and Ed, take the case with hopes of cashing in the bounty. However, the mystery surrounding the man responsible, Vincent, goes deeper than they ever imagined, and they aren't the only ones hunting him.

What it’s like

Hand-drawn 2D animation with a crisp, slightly gritty finish, where the palette runs hot: sunset oranges and deep space blues, neon-lit megacity streets, and pale, washed-out Martian desert under a bleached sky. Its wide cityscapes and long, sweeping pans give way to fast, kinetic cuts in the fight sequences, and the camera lingers on rain-slick alleys and dim interiors with a moody, cinematic weight. The score is the real atmosphere: jazzy, brassy, and bluesy, with swinging rhythms that shift into tense, percussive chases. The vibe is sleek and melancholy, a neo-western run through with lonely drifters and sharp wit. Its pacing is brisk and action-forward, and the tone swings between wry humour and grim, adult seriousness. Violence is frequent and often lethal, with gunfights, blood, and a mass-casualty backdrop, though it stays stylised rather than gratuitously gory. Best for viewers who want a stylish, genre-blending action film with bruised emotional undertones and a jazz-soaked soundtrack, and who are fine with a steady stream of bloody gunplay.
