The story

Looking for work, Aaron comes across a cryptic online ad: "$1,000 for the day. Filming service. Discretion is appreciated." Low on cash and full of naiveté, he decides to go for it. He drives to a cabin in a remote mountain town where he meets Josef, his cinematic subject for the day. Josef is sincere and the project seems heartfelt, so Aaron begins to film. But as the day goes on, it becomes clear that Josef is not who he says, and his intentions are not at all pure.

What it’s like

Grainy, handheld digital footage that feels like a camcorder left running in a stranger's house, with long unbroken takes that stay close to faces and drift through the cramped rooms of a mountain cabin. The light is mostly flat daylight through pine trees and the blue-grey cool of early morning, with the woods pressing in at every window, and the sound is sparse: wind, creaking boards, a few ambient hums, and a quiet, unsettling silence that makes every awkward pause feel heavier. Its vibe is uneasy and claustrophobic, a slow tightening of dread rather than a rush of scares, the kind of film that suits a late night alone with the lights off or a cold, dark evening when you want to be genuinely on edge. The pacing is deliberate and conversational, with much of the tension living in small gestures and half-said sentences, and its emotional register is that of a naive young man realizing too late that the person across from him is not who he claimed. The intensity is moderate and mostly psychological: there is menace, creeping unease and a few brief, sharp moments of violence, including one sudden act that lands hard, but there is no gore on display and little sexual content. It is for viewers who enjoy found-footage style thrillers, dark comedy shading into dread, and two-hander stories built on tension between strangers.
