The story

Advice columnist Dan Burns is an expert on relationships, but somehow struggles to succeed as a brother, a son and a single parent to three precocious daughters. Things get even more complicated when Dan finds out that the woman he falls in love with is actually his brother's new girlfriend.

What it’s like

Warm autumn light over a New England shoreline, crowded family kitchens, and a bookshop full of cardboard stacks and rain-spotted windows give this a cosy, lived-in look. The vibe is gentle and wistful, the sort of comedy that stays close to ordinary rooms: breakfast chaos, a car ride with squabbling daughters, a quiet walk along the water. It suits a rainy Sunday, a comfort rewatch, or an evening when you want something funny and kind without much stress. The rhythm is unhurried, with scenes that let awkward silences and small reactions breathe, and the emotional register swings from gently teasing to tender. Its central figure is a wry, overwhelmed father slowly learning to listen to the people closest to him. The intensity is mild: grief and family strain sit in the background, with no violence, little menace, and only light sexual humour. It is for viewers who want heart, warmth and easy laughs.
