The story

Jason Dessen is abducted into an alternate version of his life. To get back to his real family, he embarks on a harrowing journey to save them from the most terrifying foe imaginable: himself.

What it’s like

Cool, clean Chicago light fills most of this series: sleek apartment interiors in pale grey and steel, the warm amber of a family kitchen, and the sodium glow of city streets after dark. Its visual signature is the nested, labyrinthine look of its alternate realities, with corridors of identical rooms, mirrored glass, and sterile white laboratory spaces that feel bright and airless against the homier domestic frames. Camera work is mostly controlled and mid-distance, with tight close-ups during anxious moments and slow push-ins that build dread. The score is a pulsing electronic undercurrent that swells during reveals and drops to near silence in quieter family scenes. Vibe: taut, cerebral unease with a warm family core, best suited to a focused evening or a binge across a few nights. Pacing is brisk and twisty, and the emotional register leans on a loving but strained marriage and a father slowly reckoning with who he has been. Violence is present and sometimes sharp, with tense struggles and gunfire but little gore, and the peril is psychological as much as physical. Made for viewers who enjoy high-concept thrillers that stay grounded in ordinary life.
