The story

When two married business executives having an affair are blackmailed by a violent criminal, they are forced to turn the tables on him to save their families.

What it’s like

Cool, desaturated Chicago winter, with commuter-train platforms, grey suburban kitchens and anonymous hotel rooms lit by flat fluorescent and bedside lamps, all rendered in a crisp, glossy digital finish. The camera is restless but controlled: tight handheld in the tense stretches, slow pans across cold corporate interiors, and lingering close-ups on faces that hold guilt and fear. The score pulses with low, tense synth and strings that swell at each new threat, while quieter scenes lean on ambient hum and rain against glass. Its vibe is anxious, morally grimy unease, the kind of thing that suits a late-night watch alone or a wet weekend when you want to feel uneasy rather than comforted. The pace builds steadily, with escalating blackmail and reversals that keep tension high through the middle and close on a hard, cynical note. Its people are compromised and frightened, shifting from self-deception toward desperate, ugly resolve. Intensity is high: there is sexual content and a rape scene that is disturbing and central, plus sharp, brief violence and real menace, but little gore. It suits adults who want a dark, tense thriller about betrayal and consequence.
