The story
After an accident, no one can see the once-popular Koichi — except for loner Mitsuru, whose fondness for his classmate blooms into a haunting romance.
What it’s like
Gentle and wistful, with an undercurrent of loss, this Japanese high-school drama moves at an unhurried pace through everyday school life, where the quiet moments between classes and after hours carry much of the feeling. Its supernatural element stays low-key and human rather than spectacular, and the mystery of why one boy has become invisible to everyone else builds slowly. At its center is an opposites-attract pairing: a once-popular boy and a withdrawn classmate who alone can see him. Their bond deepens through small gestures, glances and hesitant conversations, so the romance feels tender and restrained. Expect tearjerker beats and sustained angst, rooted in grief and a past accident rather than graphic danger. Violence is minimal and fear is mild. It suits a rainy afternoon, a late-night cry, or a patient binge with tissues close at hand. It is best for viewers who want a bittersweet, slow-burning gay romance about loneliness and feelings that take a long time to be spoken.
