The story

Maddy and Cole were inseparable friends until high school started and Maddy became the most popular girl on campus. When she starts feeling lonely and heartbroken, she reconnects with Cole and the duo conspire to destroy the ultimate teen popularity contest

What it’s like

Bright, sun-filled suburban daylight, glossy digital color and clean, evenly lit school hallways give this teen comedy the polished, sunny look of a prom-season postcard, with cheerleading uniforms and gymnasium decorations popping against tidy lawns. The sound is bouncy pop and upbeat needle-drop tracks that sweeten the bickering and the quieter, lonelier beats. The mood is light and warm, with a gentle undertow of teenage heartbreak and friendship drifting under the jokes, and the pacing is brisk, with quick cuts and playful set-ups that make it easy to dip in and out of. The arc follows two old friends drifting apart and drawing back together, a slow reconnection that stays mostly good-humored. Intensity is low: mild crude humor, some teen drinking and romance, a bit of cattiness and pettiness, and no real violence, gore or dread. It suits a lazy afternoon, a comfort watch with friends, or a sleepover, and it's for people who want a sweet, silly high school comedy with a warm heart and nothing harsh.
