The story
After 10 years in prison, Driver is now a free man with a single focus - hunting down the people responsible for brutally murdering his brother.
What it’s like
Gritty, desaturated color with a washed-out, sun-bleached palette: dusty roads, chain-link fences, cheap motel rooms and dim bars lit by sodium and neon, with heat haze and grit clinging to every frame. The camera stays close and restless, handheld in the tense stretches and snapping to tight, hard-edged framing during confrontations, while the car sequences are sharp and mechanical. The score leans on pounding electronic pulses and a low synth drone that keep the pressure up, broken by sudden silences around quiet, deliberate moments. The vibe is bleak, austere and single-minded, a revenge thriller with little warmth to soften it. Pacing is lean and driven, with the story running on momentum rather than talk; the central man is taciturn and closed off, and the emotional arc is about grief hardening into something colder and harder to hold. Violence is frequent and sudden: shootings, fistfights, a hitman's efficient killings, and a brutal, tense climax, with blood shown but gore kept mostly restrained. Fear and dread come more from menace than from horror. Best for viewers who want a grim, stripped-down revenge story on a late night, fans of tough-guy crime thrillers who enjoy stylized action and a bleak, unsentimental mood.
