The story
After a former elite agent rescues a 12-year-old Chinese girl who's been abducted, they find themselves in the middle of a standoff between Triads, the Russian Mafia and high-level corrupt New York City politicians and police.
What it’s like
Gritty, saturated New York nights: sodium streetlight orange, wet asphalt reflecting neon signs from Chinatown storefronts, and the cold blue-grey of fluorescent subway platforms and dim apartment stairwells. The camera stays busy and kinetic, with fast handheld chase work, quick cuts through crowded streets and tight, hard-edged framing in the action set-pieces, while quieter scenes settle into steady medium shots. The score is driven by pulsing synth and thudding percussion, with urban noise (sirens, traffic, rain on pavement) filling the gaps. Sun-less, grimy, relentlessly tense, it has a hard-boiled crime-thriller mood that suits a late-night watch or a weekend action binge. The pacing rarely lets up, and the emotional core is a burnt-out loner slowly shielding a frightened child who has no one else. Violence is frequent and brutal: fistfights, shootings, stabbings and bloody beatings land with real impact, though gore stays mostly contained. Sexual content is minimal and language is strong. For viewers who want a relentless, streetwise action thriller with a lonely protector at its heart.
