The story

Ritsuka’s lost his spark for music—until he hears Mafuyu sing. One voice pulls him back in, and suddenly, everything starts to change between them.

What it’s like

Soft, rain-washed Tokyo rendered in muted blues and grey-greens, with warm lamplit interiors and the cramped glow of a practice room giving the animation a quiet, tactile warmth. The camera lingers on hands on guitar strings, a breath before a note, and pale late-afternoon light through school windows, while the score moves between sparse piano and full band swells that make the performances feel physically earned. The vibe is tender melancholy with a slow thaw: a rainy-Sunday watch, a late-night session alone, or something to sit with after a hard week. Pacing is unhurried, with long quiet stretches between emotional beats, and the register stays intimate and bruised rather than melodramatic. Its central arc follows two young men carefully, haltingly learning to open up to each other after grief has closed them off. Intensity is moderate: suicide and loss sit heavily in the background, handled through dread and sorrow rather than any graphic violence, and the romance is gentle and mostly restrained. Best for viewers who want emotionally honest, music-centred storytelling and can handle heavy themes treated softly.
