The story
Gladius is a turn-based gladiatorial RPG. Players try to build a championship gladiator school by gaining experience through fighting battles in the arenas and recruiting new members.
What it’s like
Sun-baked sandstone arenas, stone colosseum walls, and a warm, dusty palette give this game a steady Mediterranean-ancient feel, with fantasy creatures stepping onto the sand. Combat plays out on a square grid in turn-based rounds, so each fight is calm, deliberate and slightly tense, with the sound of clashing weapons and crowd noise filling the pauses between decisions. Between battles the pace loosens into a quieter management rhythm of recruiting, training and planning on a map. The vibe is methodical and mildly epic, suited to a long evening with a cup of tea or a focused weekend session. Violence is stylised and frequent but not graphic, with brief, bloodless-leaning clashes, and the wider fantasy elements (undead, ogres, gods) add menace without real horror. The emotional register is one of steady ambition and small victories, following a fledgling school as it climbs toward a championship. It is for players who enjoy tactical planning, slow-burn progression and building something over time.
