The story

Zeus: Master of Olympus is the fifth full title of the City Building Series, developed by Impressions Games and published by Sierra Entertainment. Like previous titles, Zeus focuses on the building and development of a city in ancient times, this time in Ancient Greece. It features some changes to the Caesar III engine, most notably the new housing blocks, now dividing "common" and "elite" housing from the start, and more detailed walkers.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached isometric terraces of marble, terracotta and olive green, seen from a fixed diagonal that rotates in slow quarter-turns, with tiny citizens crossing plazas and the sea glinting at the edge of the map. Its palette is warm and dry, the light flat and Mediterranean, and the soundscape is a gentle loop of lyre-like strings, bird calls and market chatter that swells when a temple is finished. The pace is unhurried and methodical: you lay roads, wells and housing in ordered blocks, then watch the city thicken and its walkers wander with a calm, almost pastoral rhythm. Stakes come as slow, periodic threats from the gods, such as plagues, floods and monstrous visitations, and the tone stays low-key, with no gore and only occasional stylised violence in the form of invasions and divine punishments. It suits a rainy Sunday, a long quiet evening with a cup of tea, or background focus while doing something else. It is for players who enjoy planning, tidy systems and gradual, satisfying growth, and who want a mythology-flavoured world that feels more like a sunlit postcard than a battlefield.
