The story

Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, three lifelong pals risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.

What it’s like

Warm, sunlit Americana with a gently comic edge: bright daytime exteriors of Brooklyn streets, sun-faded suburban lawns, and plain diner and apartment interiors lit by soft natural window light, the palette leaning to warm ochres, faded blues and soft greens. The camera stays largely unfussy, with easy medium shots and two-shots that let its three veteran actors trade lines and let their faces do the work. Its sound is light and folksy, with acoustic strums and a bouncy, unhurried score that keeps the caper playful rather than tense. The vibe is mellow, wry and affectionate, the sort of comfortable film for a lazy weekend afternoon or an easy evening with a glass of wine. Pacing is relaxed and conversational, with the heist gradually taking shape around long banter between old friends. Its emotional register is bittersweet and humane, following three men confronting loneliness, money worries and the indignity of aging, and finding warmth and purpose again in each other. Violence is minimal and mostly comic, with no gore, brief threats and no sexual content, and profanity is light. It suits viewers who want a gentle, funny crime story with heart and no real menace.
