The story

A group of young boys on the cusp of becoming teenagers embark on an epic quest to fix their broken drone before their parents get home.

What it’s like

Bright, flat suburban daylight over cul-de-sacs, sunny backyards and cluttered bedrooms, with a loose handheld camera that bounces along with three sixth-graders as they scramble across town. The palette is clean and candy-colored, the framing mostly straightforward, and the score is peppy pop-rock and bubbly synth cues that keep the energy up. The vibe is goofy, bouncy and warm, the kind of raunchy-innocent comedy that plays well on a lazy weekend afternoon, a long-haul flight, or as a laugh-out-loud watch with friends. Pacing is brisk and gag-driven, with the emotional core coming through in small moments of loyalty as the boys who think they're too old for friendship lean on each other. Language and sexual talk are constant but mostly verbal and cringe-comic: crude jokes, awkward kissing, a sex toy as a running prop, and some slapstick peril with a drone and a busy highway, with no real gore and only mild, cartoonish fear. Best for viewers who want a crude, funny, nostalgic-feeling comedy about growing up that doesn't ask much of them.
