The story

Elegant, proper Grace and freewheeling, eccentric Frankie are a pair of frenemies whose lives are turned upside down - and permanently intertwined - when their husbands leave them for each other. Together, they must face starting over in their 70s in a 21st century world.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-washed California light fills the frame, with the warm, airy calm of a Pacific beach house in every shot: pale wood, linen, sea glimpsed through big windows. The camera stays mostly steady and medium-wide, letting two sharp comic performers play off each other in rooms that feel lived-in and unhurried. The score is light and bouncy, with a shrug of jazz and small bursts of pop, and the scenes rarely go quiet for long. Its vibe is breezy, witty and warm, a comedy with a tender undercurrent of loss and an easy, sly sense of humor about getting older. The pacing is brisk and talky, each episode built around banter and small domestic collisions, while the emotional arc follows two initially prickly women slowly becoming unlikely allies and friends. Intensity is low: the conflict is verbal and emotional, with mild profanity, some sexual innuendo and frank talk about bodies and desire, but no real violence, gore or fear. It suits a lazy weekend, a comfort rewatch or a relaxed evening with friends, and it is for viewers who enjoy sharp older-character comedy, friendship across differences and gentle, funny takes on second chances.
