The story
Fabulously wealthy London housewife Sammy, is forced to return to the town in Australia she grew up in. But in coming home, Sammy must revisit her past and the events that led her to flee as a teenager years ago.
What it’s like
Sun-washed Australian streets and kitchens sit against the sleeker, cooler London rooms of the past, while the comedy relies on tight close-ups and the beat of silence after a cutting remark. The vibe is wry, brittle and grief-tinged, the kind of show that suits a lazy weekend afternoon or a binge on the sofa with a glass of wine. Scenes move briskly, with running gags and sudden shifts from barbed humour to raw family friction. At its centre is a glamorous, self-protective woman forced to face the town and people she once fled, slowly loosening her defences as old wounds resurface. Intensity: frequent profanity, frank sexual talk and adult humiliation; violence is minimal and not graphic, though death and bereavement sit under the surface. Best for viewers who want a funny, prickly comedy-drama with real emotional undertow rather than something gentle or cosy.
