The story
While trying to free her sister from Fahai's clutches, Xiao Qing winds up in a dystopian city and meets a mysterious man who can't recall his past life.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated 3D animation with a glossy, polished finish, the look of contemporary Chinese donghua, where jade greens and icy whites glow against dim, smoky city streets. Its dystopian city sits under a grimy, neon-tinged haze, with sharp shadows and dramatic camera swoops that move quickly through crowded alleys and open sky. Sound leans on a bustling mix of orchestral swells, electronic pulses and rousing battle cues, with lively dialogue and frequent bursts of sound. The mood is brisk and earnest, a steady current of adventure with moments of wistful tenderness between its two leads, who slowly find trust in each other. Action is stylised and frequent, with martial-arts clashes, sword fights and magical blasts that carry some real peril but rarely linger on blood or gore; the emotional stakes stay sincere rather than harrowing. It suits a weekend afternoon, a family movie night, or anyone who wants energetic fantasy spectacle with heart, for viewers who enjoy fast-paced animated action and vivid, mythic colour.
