The story
Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire is the second expansion for the award-winning game, Guild Wars 2. As the balance of magic comes undone, lead your allies in the hunt for the rogue god Balthazar, whose scorched-earth campaign threatens the very existence of Tyria. Introducing mounts, mounts are far more than a speed boost—they're a whole new way to explore the world of Tyria. Unlock and train your new companions using the max-level Mastery character progression system, and explore freely by leaping across canyons, bounding up high cliffs, and skimming over quicksand. Continue to evolve and customize your level-80 character with a new elite specialization for each profession. With a new variety of playstyles, weapon choices, and traits to choose from, there are more options than ever to play your way. Discover and earn treasures as you journey through the Crystal Desert. Outfit your character with new armor sets, skins, and weapons inspired by Elonian culture and the heritage of the desert.
What it’s like
Sun-bleached and sprawling, with the Crystal Desert's glassy dunes catching hard afternoon light and shimmering heat haze softening the horizon at midday. Its vibe is adventurous and unhurried, a wander-and-discover mood for an open-ended afternoon or a long evening of exploring at your own pace. The art direction leans on saturated ochres, teal shadows and ornate Elonian textiles, while the score swells with lute, percussion and wind across the sands, and the game's world-to-world transitions feel like crossing a threshold. In the hands, mounts make travel itself a pleasure: leaping canyons, scrambling up cliffs and skimming quicksand give the map a playful, physical rhythm. Combat is frequent and fast-paced, with a steady flow of hits, skill rotations and enemy swarms, but it is stylised fantasy rather than graphic; blood is minimal and cruelty is largely implied. Its character arcs are about rivalry and a looming threat rather than intimacy. It suits players who love exploration-first MMO play, build-tinkering with class specialisations, and sprawling worlds to get lost in across many sessions.
