The story
12 year old Tinja is desperate to please her mother, a woman obsessed with presenting the image of a perfect family. One night, Tinja finds a strange egg. What hatches is beyond belief.
What it’s like
Glossy, controlled surfaces give way to something uneasy: a suburban Finnish home rendered in polished pastels, sterile kitchens, and immaculate symmetrical framing, with the grey-blue chill of early winter pressing at the windows. Camera work is tight and composed, lingering on a girl's careful movements in a gymnastics hall where the mirrors and blond wood feel almost too clean. The score leans on restrained, unsettling textures rather than jump-scare stingers, so the dread builds in small sounds: a faint rustle, a held breath, the hush of a too-quiet house. Vibe: brittle perfection cracking into creeping body-horror unease, a dark fable about pressure and belonging. Pacing is deliberate, with the tension tightening steadily toward a grotesque, sharp reveal. Intensity is high: strong body horror and a few graphic, disturbing images of transformation, with some violence and bloodied moments, but no sexual content. The emotional register is anxious and claustrophobic, centred on a daughter desperate for her mother's approval and the strain of a family performing normalcy. It suits viewers who enjoy elevated horror with a fairy-tale edge and don't mind squirming. Not for anyone wanting something gentle.
