The story

Cha Yu-ri died in an accident five years ago, leaving her husband Cho Gang-hwa to raise their daughter by himself. She becomes a ghost and watches over them until one fateful day she is brought back to life by the deities and told she can become human again if she returns to her place in 49 days. Though her husband has remarried, so she must decide between her or his happiness as she slowly re-integrates back into her old lifestyle.

What it’s like

Warm, bright domestic interiors, with sunlit kitchens, cluttered family apartments and soft daytime light, set the tone, shifting into gentler dusk and nighttime scenes when the supernatural business takes over. Scoring leans on sentimental piano and light, playful strings, and the humour comes from everyday clumsiness rather than slapstick. The vibe is wistful and comforting, a bittersweet mix of grief and laughter that suits a rainy weekend, a comfort rewatch, or an evening when you want to cry a little and smile more. Pacing is leisurely and episodic, letting scenes of ordinary family routine breathe between the more heightened moments. Emotionally it follows a ghostly mother and the family she left behind as they rebuild their relationships, with the central tension being tender rather than cruel. Violence is limited to the accident in the backstory and a few brief, non-graphic moments; there is little gore and no sexual content, though sorrow and loss run through much of it. It is made for viewers who enjoy Korean family dramas with a touch of fantasy and want a heartfelt, funny-sad story about second chances.
