The story

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the epic sequel to Hollow Knight, the epic action-adventure of bugs and heroes. As the lethal hunter Hornet, journey to all-new lands, discover new powers, battle vast hordes of bugs and beasts and uncover ancient secrets tied to your nature and your past.

What it’s like

Hand-drawn 2D art in muted, bruised palettes: pale silk-grey ruins, mossy greens, dusty ochres, and sudden blooms of crimson and gold against near-black caverns. Backgrounds are layered and painterly, with drifting motes, cobwebbed lanterns, and fog that thickens as you descend, so each new region feels like a different weather system. The soundtrack is sparse and melancholic, built on low strings, soft choral hums, and long stretches of ambient silence broken by the clicks and rustles of insect life. Movement is fluid and weighty, and the sword and silk-thread combat has a satisfying snap that suits focused, hands-on play. The vibe is atmospheric melancholy with flickers of wonder: quiet, lonely exploration punctuated by sharp, tense fights. Pacing is patient and maze-like, rewarding curiosity and backtracking, and the emotional arc follows a solitary, guarded heroine slowly uncovering her past. Violence is frequent and stylised: bosses and enemies are stabbed and slashed with blood-free but intense combat, and some encounters carry real danger and dread rather than gore. It suits players who want a moody, challenging adventure through a beautifully drawn insect kingdom, especially on a late evening alone.
