The story
Young investigative journalist Hilde Lisko moves with her family to the small town her father left behind, only to unearth shocking secrets in her pursuit of the truth.
What it’s like
Overcast daylight, wet evergreen hillsides, and a sleepy Pacific Northwest town with fogged-up diners and dark, creaking houses give this series a damp, grey-green palette, shot mostly in steady medium frames and quiet interiors where the cold light does most of the work. The score is sparse and low, with the occasional eerie synth swell pushing the unease forward. The mood is cool and wary, a slow-building mystery with a restless, watchful heart, where a family's fresh start is always shadowed by something buried. Pacing is deliberate and episodic, with clue-by-clue reveals that tighten rather than rush. Violence exists and a murder drives the plot, but it is handled through dread, aftermath and implication rather than gore. Its emotional core is a young, determined investigator and her strained, tender bond with her father as the town's past closes in. It suits a rainy weekend, a late-evening watch with the lights down, or fans who like small-town mysteries where the atmosphere matters as much as the answer.
