The story
A foul-mouthed high school basketball coach is sure he'll hit the big leagues if he can only turn his terrible team around. Good luck with that.
What it’s like
Bright, flat, cartoon color with loose, scrappy linework: a sun-washed suburban gym, sweaty hardwood, fluorescent buzz and the squeak of sneakers, all rendered in the lazy-cheerful look of late-night adult animation. The tone is crude and loud, with rapid-fire profanity, deadpan one-liners and the kind of gleeful bad behavior that lands harder because everyone around it is slightly too earnest. The pacing is brisk, built on short cold-open gags and cutaways, and the emotional undercurrent is a washed-up man's stubborn hope and the slow, grudging bond he builds with a roster of misfits who are no better at this than he is. Intensity is moderate: frequent swearing, sexual innuendo and crude jokes, some cartoon violence and rough physical slapstick, with no real gore and no genuine menace. It suits a loud, unwinding night in, background laughs while doing something else, or a comfort rewatch for anyone who likes their sports comedy scruffy and irreverent. It is for people who enjoy adult cartoons with a mean streak and a soft center, and who find failure funnier than triumph.
