The story

A desperate father tries to return home to his pregnant wife after a mysterious apocalyptic event turns everything to chaos.

What it’s like

Ash-grey skies, washed-out daylight and long empty highways give this road-trip apocalypse a muted, dust-choked look, with cities and towns left stalled and half-emptied. The camera stays close in cramped car interiors and roadside stops, so the travelling feels intimate even when the landscape is vast and silent. The score is sparse and low-key, leaving room for wind, distant rumbles and the crunch of gravel underfoot. The mood is anxious and weary rather than frantic: a steady undertow of dread, grief and worry for someone far away, with bursts of tension when strangers and danger cross the path. Its pacing is patient, with quiet stretches between sudden, disorienting eruptions of chaos. Intensity is moderate. There is some violence, including a few sharp, unsettling confrontations and a murder, but it is brief and shown without lingering gore, and the emotional weight comes from fear and desperation. It suits a grey afternoon or a late night alone, for viewers who like catastrophe films built around one stubborn personal journey and a father's refusal to give up on his family.
