The story
M, a university dropout low on money and luck, volunteers to take care of his terminally ill grandmother, in the hope of pocketing an inheritance.
What it’s like
Warm, sun-washed Bangkok light fills this film: bright daytime rooms in an old family house, cluttered kitchens under humid afternoon glow, and street scenes of traffic, food stalls and scooters baking in the heat. The camera stays close and conversational, often holding on two people sharing a small space, with quick comic cuts giving way to long, quiet pauses when the mood turns. The score is light and bouncy through the comic stretches and softens into gentle melody for the heavier beats, while household sounds like fans, a radio and clattering pots fill the gaps. The vibe is bittersweet and warm, with a playful surface that keeps cracking open into tears. Pacing is brisk at first, then slows as a restless young man who has dropped out of university slowly learns patience and tenderness while caring for his sharp-tongued, dying grandmother. Intensity is low: some crude jokes, plus frank talk of illness and death, with no violence, gore or on-screen sexual content. Well suited to a rainy-Sunday watch or a family night, for people who want a funny, honest, cry-at-the-end story about family and caregiving.
