The story
Manny the mammoth, Sid the loquacious sloth, and Diego the sabre-toothed tiger go on a comical quest to return a human baby back to his father, across a world on the brink of an ice age.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated CGI in a warm, storybook register: sunlit tundra and snowfields in wide, sweeping shots, with pale blue glacier light and the crisp white of drifting snow giving way to lush greens and amber in the valleys. The camera moves with a lively, cartoonish energy, quick pans and slapstick timing, while the score is full orchestral swell that rises with each chase and softens into gentle melody for the quieter moments. It has a buoyant, good-natured vibe, the kind that suits a family movie night, a lazy weekend afternoon, or a comfort rewatch with someone younger. Pacing is brisk and jokey, with frequent banter between its three odd-couple companions, and the emotional core is a grumpy loner gradually softening into devotion to a helpless little one. Intensity is mild: there are slapstick falls, a few tense predator chases and a menacing villain, but no gore and little real peril, and the darker threads about loss stay in the background. It is made for families and for anyone wanting an upbeat, warm-hearted animated adventure with plenty of laughs.
