The story

John Gage offers a down-on-his-luck yuppie husband $1 million for the opportunity to spend the night with the man's wife.

What it’s like

Warm, sun-drenched Las Vegas daylight gives way to glossy, high-gloss night interiors: casino floors washed in amber and gold, penthouse suites lit by soft lamps and city glow through tall windows, and Adrian Lyne's polished, slightly over-lush framing that lingers on faces and hands. Sensual close-ups, smooth dolly moves, and a swelling, syrupy score by John Barry give the mood a glamorous, aching sheen, while the dusty roulette tables and sweating card-room tension add a jittery edge. The vibe is seductive melancholy with simmering unease, best suited to a late evening alone or a grown-up date night when you want something slick and emotionally heavy. The pace is deliberate, with long pauses between confrontations, and the emotional register swings between romantic longing and quiet moral anguish as a couple's marriage is tested by money and temptation. Expect adult content: sexual situations, nudity, and an adultery-centred storyline, with violence mostly implied and very limited. It suits viewers who enjoy glossy, character-driven drama about desire, debt, and the price of love, and it is not a gentle watch.
