The story
Girls from all over the world gather at IS Academy to learn how to become IS pilots. However, since Ichika can somehow pilot the IS even though he is male, he was forced to attend IS Academy as the only male in this school.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated anime palettes with clean cel shading, sunlit school corridors, and bursts of glossy mecha light when the armored suits deploy, the look of a mid-2010s Japanese TV series rather than anything gritty. The sound leans on bouncy pop-rock openings, chirpy incidental music, and sudden orchestral swells during fight sequences, so it works as lively background while folding laundry or as a light Friday-night watch with friends. The vibe is breezy, flirtatious, and sitcom-paced, with a comedic register that keeps stakes low: a steady stream of misunderstandings, teasing, and crowded group scenes, where a reluctant, good-natured teen slowly becomes the center of a crowd of eager classmates. Its romantic tension is playful and repetitive rather than deep, and its childhood-connection plotline adds a little sweetness. Violence is cartoonish and brief, mostly mecha duels with no gore, but there is plenty of fan-service: fleeting nudity-adjacent gags, bathing scenes, and suggestive camerawork that some viewers will find uncomfortable. It suits viewers who want a silly, harem-style school comedy with mecha spectacle and don't mind a lot of fan-service.
