The story

Jason Voorhees is tracked down and blown to bits by a special FBI task force, reborn with the bone-chilling ability to assume the identity of anyone he touches.

What it’s like

Gritty, sun-dulled slasher look: flat daylight over New Jersey woods, cramped diner interiors under fluorescent tubes, and a lot of murky, grainy night photography where the pine dark swallows the frame. The camera stays fairly conventional for the genre, with quick handheld pushes into kills and wide static shots of the forest that let the emptiness do the work. Sound leans on synth stingers, a pulsing horror score, and sudden stabs of silence before a jolt. The vibe is grimy, mean and deliberately schlocky, a sequel that leans into its own absurdity and a bit of 1990s splatter-film bravado. It suits a late-night horror rewatch with the lights off, or a Halloween-season marathon with friends who enjoy cheap thrills. Intensity is high: frequent, graphic gore and kills, sadistic cruelty, and bodies shredded on screen, with brief sexual content and nudity along the way. Fear comes from sudden violence more than sustained dread. Built for hardcore slasher fans who want unapologetic, bloody, low-budget excess and don't need subtlety.
