The story

A man belongs to a middle-class family and is intent on pursuing his career with a music group, despite his dad's disapproval. He is also in love with the lead singer, but she sees him mainly as a friend.

What it’s like

Warm, sun-washed Bombay streets and cramped middle-class flats in bright, slightly overexposed 90s film colour, with the frame full of ordinary clutter: tiffin boxes, ceiling fans, crowded balconies, and the bustle of a city that feels lived-in rather than glamorous. The camera stays mostly close and conversational, with plenty of medium two-shots and playful, slightly theatrical cutaways, and the soundtrack of cheerful, melodic Hindi pop and gentle romantic numbers keeps the mood buoyant. Its vibe is light, wry and affectionate, closer to a sitcom-tinged romance than a tearjerker, and it suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family viewing, or a comfort rewatch with a snack. The pacing is brisk and comic, with teasing set-ups and broad physical humour, while the emotional core is a young man's hopeful, slightly awkward persistence in love and in his ambitions, shading into gentle friction with his father. Intensity is very low: some mild slapstick and sulking, no real violence, no sexual content. It is for people who want a funny, sweet, music-filled romance with a fond eye on family life.
