The story

After his mission is exposed, an undercover CIA operative stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down.

What it’s like

Hard-edged desert daylight and dust-choked distances, with the heat shimmering off sand-coloured ridgelines and the frame often tightened into handheld, sweat-beaded close-ups that keep you cramped inside the characters' tension. The palette runs bleached tan, khaki and grey-blue shadow, broken by sudden flashes of gunfire and night-vision green when the action drops into darkness. Sound is constant and busy: wind over open ground, engines grinding on rough tracks, radio chatter and the crack of rifles, with the score mostly restrained so that urgency comes from the environment rather than swelling strings. The rhythm is relentless, a long chain of pursuits, hideouts and close calls that rarely pauses for reflection, and the mood is taut, grimly determined, sun-bleached unease. It suits a tense late-evening watch when you want to be pulled along without rest. Violence is frequent and realistic, with firefights, brutal close-quarters combat and bloody wounds, and the threat of torture and execution lingers; it is not gentle. Its emotional core is a hardened operative and an interpreter bound together by trust under pressure. It is for viewers who want grounded military thrillers with an intense, unrelenting pace.
