The story
A dramatization of the life story of C. Sankaran Nair, the lawyer who fought for the truth behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
What it’s like
Weighty, earnest period drama with the tension of a courtroom, set in colonial India after 1919. Expect the deliberate pace of argument and testimony, with emotional swells when the stakes rise. The subject is a real massacre, so the mood is grave and sober, and the story carries serious violence in its history even where it stays off screen. The register is intense and principled rather than gentle, and its heroes are defined by conviction and persistence. It suits a focused evening when you want a serious true-history story rather than something light. It is for viewers who enjoy legal drama and Indian history, and who want a film that treats its subject with weight and moral seriousness.
