The story
The story begins with Oomiya Shinobu, a 15-year-old, seemingly pure Japanese girl who actually did a homestay in Great Britain. Even after coming back to Japan, she still misses her time overseas. One day, an airmail letter arrives from Alice, the girl in Shinobu's host family in Great Britain. The letter reads: Shinobu, I'm coming to Japan! The Japanese/British girls' mixed comedy follows the lives of Shinobu, Alice, and other girls from both Japan and Great Britain.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated anime colours on classroom and seaside backdrops, with clean cel-shaded lines and bouncy, expressive character acting that leans into exaggerated reaction faces and quick cuts between gags. The palette is cheerful and warm, shifting between sunlit Japanese school hallways and the greener, rainier look of an English town, so the change of place does much of the visual comedy. Sound is a light pop-rock and piano score with chirpy opening and closing songs, and the dialogue crosses between Japanese and loose English, which becomes part of the joke. Pacing is brisk and episodic, built from short sketches that rarely linger, and the tone stays giddy and affectionate rather than dramatic. Relationships are the core: a shy, earnest girl gradually grows more confident around her exuberant new friends, and the cultural mix-ups keep the warmth coming. Mild cheek-pinching slapstick and teasing, with no violence and nothing romantic or sexual beyond light flirtation. Good for a light, feel-good watch on a lazy afternoon, or for viewers who like school-life comedy with a cross-cultural twist.
