The story
A live broadcast of a late-night talk show in 1977 goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms.
What it’s like
Warm tungsten studio light against deep blue-black set walls, the glow of 1970s television sets, and a soft beige-and-orange palette that gives the whole thing a dated, faded-print feel. The camera mostly stays in the studio, cutting between a fixed host desk, audience close-ups and grainy, bleached-looking inserts that imitate tape and broadcast artifacts. Sound leans on wood-panel hum, applause, studio chatter and a sparse, eerie score that drops into near silence before the room turns. Set on a live Halloween night in New York, it has a vibe of uneasy showbiz nostalgia curdling into dread, the kind of thing to watch late at night with the lights low. Pacing builds steadily through the broadcast, with a lonely, self-conscious host whose ambition and grief pull him toward a reckoning. The horror is bloody and violent in its final act, with possession, hypnotic imagery and gore that lands hard, plus cancer and bereavement woven into the emotional stakes. For viewers who love retro period atmosphere and found-footage-style unease, not for anyone wanting something gentle.
