The story

Legend of Grimrock 2 is a dungeon crawling role playing game with a modern execution but an oldschool heart. Discover powerful ancient artifacts from hidden secret chambers and buried treasures. Arm your champions, cast spells and craft enchanted potions and bombs to aid you in fighting the dreadful monsters in highly tactical real-time combat. Design, share and play custom scenarios with the included Dungeon Editor! Create your own adventures and fill them with puzzles, traps, or even totally new items, monsters and environments with custom graphics and audio! Get ready to venture forth and uncover the secrets of Nex!

What it’s like

Torchlit stone corridors with flickering orange light, cold blue-grey shadows in side passages, and rough, slightly crude textures on walls and floors, all seen in a first-person grid where every step clicks into place. Ambient sound is sparse: dripping water, distant grinding machinery, the scrape of stone doors sliding open, and the hollow clatter of skeletons, with combat hits landing with a heavy, satisfying weight. The vibe is quiet, studious dread, the kind of focused calm that comes from mapping a maze in a notebook, best suited to a rainy evening, a late night alone, or a long stretch of uninterrupted time. The pace is deliberate, with long stretches of exploration and backtracking punctuated by bursts of real-time fighting against mummies, skeletons, and strange creatures. Violence is fantasy-style and frequent, with visible blood and undead cruelty, but no sexual content and little that lingers beyond the fight itself. Its emotional register is tense and cerebral rather than frightening, and the satisfaction comes from solving a puzzle or uncovering a hidden chamber. It is for people who love old-school dungeon crawling, want to slow down and think, and enjoy a party of adventurers slowly getting stronger through trial and error.
