The story

Lords & Peasants is a medieval real-time strategy and city building game developed by Inverted Cat Games. It has both single and multiplayer modes with up to 16 Players. Start out as a lord of a small village and develop it into a prospering city. Manage your city and rule over the peasants. Forge alliances and intimidate your enemies. Recruit an army and conquer the lands to create your kingdom.

What it’s like

Lords & Peasants is a PC strategy game with a muddy, earthy palette: thatched roofs, dirt tracks, grey stone keeps and overcast skies that keep the colours low and washed out. The camera hangs high over the village like a map table, so the streets, fields and gathering crowds read as small, busy patterns that sprawl as the settlement grows. Sound is mostly ambient, with the creak of carts, distant hammering, crowd chatter and the occasional horn cutting through, and the music stays unobtrusive enough to sit under a long session. The pace is steady and unhurried through the economic build-up, quickening into sharp, tense skirmishes when armies march out. There is no gore to speak of; violence is a matter of units clashing and falling on a battlefield rather than anything graphic, and the tension comes from resource juggling and the threat of rivals. Vibe: patient, slightly grim, quietly satisfying, best for a long evening alone or a weekend session with friends in multiplayer. It suits players who enjoy watching a humble village become a kingdom, managing hungry peasants and shifting alliances, and who like city builders with a medieval edge.
