The story

An LA girl, unlucky in love, falls for an East Coast guy on a dating app and decides to surprise him for Christmas, only to discover that she's been catfished. But the object of her affection actually lives in the same town, and the guy who duped her offers to set them up if she pretends to be his own girlfriend for the holidays.

What it’s like

Bright, glossy holiday-season digital look: sunny Los Angeles afternoons, warm interiors strung with fairy lights, snowy New England streets rendered in cool, soft-focus white, and a lot of bright phone-screen glow in close-ups of messages and video calls. The camera stays conventional and polished, with clean two-shots, easy coverage of hand-held conversations, and montage-friendly cutting set to upbeat pop and seasonal covers. The sound is chatty and bouncy, with a steady stream of banter and jingle-bell-adjacent warmth rather than any real quiet. Vibe: light, bubbly, feelgood holiday fluff, the kind of thing for a cosy evening in with a blanket and a mug of cocoa, or an easy watch while wrapping presents. Pacing is brisk and predictable in the best way, with the emotional beats arriving on schedule. Its people are a woman who keeps getting let down by men slowly learning to trust her own instincts, and a pair of mismatched romantic leads drifting from rivalry into affection. Intensity is very low: a few raised voices and awkward mishaps, no violence, no gore, mild innuendo and one or two kisses. It suits anyone who wants a gentle, reliably happy romcom to unwind with, especially fans of seasonal rom-coms and dating-app comedy.
