The story
A 34 year old single woman, Nancy, hung-over again, exhausted by the endless fruitless set ups by her friends, traveling across London to toast another 10 years of her parents' successful happy magical marriage runs in with a 40 year old divorcee, Jack, who mistakes her for his 24 year old blind date. Nancy, deciding to go with it, happens to hop on the most chaotic yet hilarious journey of her life which neither of them will ever forget.
What it’s like
Bright, daylight London rendered in clean, unfussy romcom style: sun-washed streets, the grey-green gleam of a train carriage, and a bowling alley lit in warm amber and neon that gives the evening its glow. Handheld, close-in camera keeps the two leads at arm's length, so the awkward glances and quick reactions land fast, and the pace is brisk and talky, with banter overlapping in the way of a cheerful, slightly frantic afternoon out. Sound leans on bouncy pop and easy needle-drop tracks, with the clatter of pins and London crowds filling the gaps. The vibe is light, warm and self-aware, a comedy of errors that sits somewhere between wry and sweet. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a night in when you want something amusing without much weight. Language is frank and sexual innuendo runs through the jokes, with some drinking and a few lies that snowball, but violence is absent and the mood stays gentle. Made for people who enjoy British romantic comedy with a sharp, funny edge and a slow-burn pairing of two unlikely people who keep bumping into each other.
